Food Freezing & Chilling

Liquid nitrogen systems offer a cost-effective alternative to traditional methods of food freezing and chilling – processing larger quantities faster, while occupying significantly less floor space. Available in a range of sizes, our systems are flexible enough to fit easily into existing production systems with a minimum of capital expenditure.

Tunnel Freezing and Chilling (“Inline” or “Continuous Process”)

Tunnel freezers are the mainstay of our liquid Nitrogen systems. First introduced in 1965, the CRYO-QUICK™ tunnel range has a solution for all your production needs. It includes tunnels designed for stand-alone use or for integration into systems incorporating immersion freezers or other equipment from the growing family of CRYO-QUICK™ freezing systems.

Products typically frozen in tunnels are meat cuts, burgers, fish fillets, poultry products, seafood, bakery products, ice cream, appetizers, ethnic foods and ready meals.

Batch Freezing & Chilling

Batch processing is the perfect solution for fast economic freezing or chilling of foods. Air Products has designed cabinet freezers to meet the stringent demand of cook-chill and cook-freeze processes.
These extremely flexible systems are ideal for food processors with batch or low volume freezing and chilling requirements.

IQF Freezing & Coating

“Individually Quick Frozen”

IQF using liquid nitrogen enables small foods like raspberries or prawns – normally difficult to freeze satisfactorily – to be frozen singly, thus keeping their individual form, texture and taste. Cryogenic freezing also allows liquids to be frozen into pellets and coatings to be applied to individual food items.

100% IQF products are produced in one of two ways: either by immersion in liquid nitrogen at -196°C to freeze the outer surface of the product instantaneously or by constant motion during the freezing process. Both technologies prevent product stickage and produce a 100% IQF freezing throughput, even when the food is sauce coated or has a high water content.

Liquid Processing & Sauce Cooling

Using the high power of refrigerant liquid nitrogen for fast and economic cooling and freezing of all types of liquids or semi-liquids – sauces, gravies, custards, purees, ice cream, specialty soups, mixed meal combinations – Air Products has developed low capital cost batch and in-line solutions

Rapid Cooling of Hot Liquids

For extremely rapid and economical cooling of any type of hot liquid (sauces, soups, and gravies etc) the CRYO-COOL™ Chiller combines a vacuum cooling process with the high refrigeration power of liquid Nitrogen at -196°C. Flavours are retained and top quality food is produced in minimal floor-space.

Freezing Liquid and Semi-Liquid Products

For freezing liquids and slurries, the CRYO-STREAM™ Drum produces free-flowing individually frozen pellets in batches. This process is particularly appropriate for products such as liquid eggs, cream, speciality milks and starter cultures.

For freezing liquids and pastes in-line, the CRYO-STREAM™ and CRYO-QUICK™ Solid Belt Tunnels have great flexibility and can process products of any shape or size at a high production rate. They are mainly used for products like tomato juice, puree, ice cream and any foods that cannot be deposited onto a mesh belt.

Tunnel Assessment Program

Liquid Nitrogen Freezing Systems from Air Products, used alone or in conjunction with mechanical systems, provide significant opportunities to the food processor.

This on-line guide is designed to help you with analysing some of those benefits. The purpose is to give you a feel for the costs, sizing, and freezing times before you decide whether or not you need additional information to help in your evaluation.

This program provides an indication of the best freezing solution for your needs – here are some graphical examples of what to expect from your results:

Freezing Time Graph.
Indicates how long your product takes to freeze in mechanical and cryogenic freezers.

Space Requirement Graph.
In terms of area of belt required, we can indicate your optimum space saving solution

Costs Graph.
This program will generate a set of example capital and running costs based on publicly available information.
